Angelo made a pizza for me last Saturday. But it’s not like any other pizza — it’s a potato chip pizza margherita. Or, more exactly — a classic Jack ‘n Jill barbecue flavor potato chip pizza margherita! ‘Cause he knows how much I love tato chips and Jack ‘n Jill is by far my most favorite. Yes, walang sinabi ang Lays (even the Baked one) or Pringles.
The main ingredient may have been store-bought, but Gels made the dough by himself — from scratch! And it has tomatoes. Oh, I love tomatoes! The pizza was so yummy I started eating it even before it made its way into the oven. I once told Angelo that potatoes are probably the best things ever. Yeah, I know, it’s too much, but who doesn’t like a bag of freshly packed potato chips? I definitely don’t.
Prepping the ingredients. Plus copy of recipe. ;)
Dough mix
I knead you.
Pizza pan!

Oven heaven
Doing the honors ;)
My nth slice.
Yummay!

Ubos na!
Pagkakain, tulog.

Yes, we are like those typical couples who celebrate anniversaries. Yes, we go out and have dinner. And yes, we give gifts to each other. So yeah, if those ‘typical couples’ are disgustingly happy especially on a particular day of the year, so are we! Oh I love my Zooey! :-D
Dinner date at Tempura Grill, Tomas Morato. Please ignore someone’s receding hairline. Haha, kidding lang, love. Ako din meron. :-p
I really need and want this. Thank you, Gels!
I tore out pages from Nylon magazine about a feature on She and Him, and used it to wrap Angelo’s present, which is…
… a pocket size Scribe notebook (can’t find Moleskine) and a Topman tee with an NYC and Bangkok print ;-)
Yes, some material things can make us happy. But not as happy as we are just by being together — two years and more, more, more to come!

Sir Alecks and I sat on opposite ends at the office. Our office is small though so we were practically just a stone’s throw away from each other. I guess, true to his claim of being ‘rastamad’ — tamad meaning lazy — Sir Alecks, instead of actually talking to me, sometimes resorted to Gmail chat.
alecks is typing…
alecks: hi karol. where is your story?
But many would agree — Sir Alecks was never tamad. Just two weeks ago, he was even asking for certain documents he needed for a story he was working on. He worked like mad. He stayed late in the office, then continued at home. His dedication to his work is admirable. He cared deeply for PCIJ and its readers.
Most of the time, I was intimidated by Sir Alecks because I always thought of him as PCIJ’s ‘rockstar.’ And he was, in all the good sense of the word. He was feisty. He was sharp. He had a point of view. He had that sarcastic edge, but his wit and sense of humor will definitely win over anyone. He made people laugh. He enlightened them, most of all.
Like Harper Lee, I couldn’t say that Sir Alecks loved to write, because nobody says he or she loves to breathe. But even now that he is no longer with us, his stories, his words, his voice will continue to be an inspiration.
My Gmail chat is on, and I just wish he would go online. I got stories I want to tell him.

PCIJ at 20
By Ma. Ceres P. Doyo
Philippine Daily Inquirer
This week the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ) is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
How time flies. The past 20 years have indeed been colorful, dangerous years for this journalistic endeavor which is an Asian first and which continues to be not only investigative but innovative as well in its reporting and use of new forms of media technology.
Part of the celebration is a seminar for Asian journalists. The theme is “Peace, Human Rights, Good Governance: East Asian Democracies at the Crossroads.” Why this theme? In the next three years, PCIJ explains, a number of countries in Southeast Asia will witness strategic shifts in leadership through elections and parliamentary processes. General elections were recently held in Indonesia. The Philippines will hold its first automated national elections in May 2010. Parliamentary elections in Cambodia are scheduled to be held in July 2011. Thailand and Malaysia have recently witnessed changes in political leadership, while other nations in Southeast Asia continue their evolution into fuller, more stable democracies.
PCIJ hopes that the gathering would foster better understanding and engagement between and among independent and mainstream journalists, civil society groups, academe and development agencies about common concerns with protection and promotion of human rights, peace and good governance in both the restored and restricted democracies of Southeast Asia. It will provide learning sessions for journalists from Southeast Asia and in the process encourage cross-border reporting and correspondence on these concerns.
